Polymeris' European commitment welcomed by the State

In a letter to Polymeris, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, praised the cluster's long-standing involvement in European projects. He particularly congratulated the cluster for obtaining more than €5.9 million in directly managed funding from the European Union over the past ten years.

This recognition demonstrates the European strategy implemented by Polymeris, consistent with national priorities in terms of competitiveness, ecological and digital transition, and industrial sovereignty. As a competitiveness cluster funded by the State, regions, and local authorities, Polymeris plays a strategic interface role between regional ecosystems and European agencies.

For several years, the cluster has supported its members—companies, technical centers, laboratories, and training institutions—in the identification, development, and management of European projects, particularly through the Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, Interreg, and Euroclusters programs.

A look back at the ECP4 Conference: “Trends in Polymers and Composites Circularity”

The ECP4 conference, “The European Composites, Plastics and Polymer Processing Platform,” entitled “Trends in Polymers and Composites Circularity,” was held from May 13 to 14, 2025, and was co-organized by Axel’One and Polymeris at the Lyon 1 University Campus. This event brought together various experts from clusters, universities, companies, and technical centers that are members of ECP4, of which Polymeris is a key member.

The first day was dedicated to discussions on the emergence and implementation of European projects between members of the association. Presentations focused on the themes of circularity, advanced manufacturing, and digitalization in the polymer and composite sectors.

Boosting industrial adoption of biodegradable polymers for packaging through the new European Be-UP project

Polymeris, along with its two affiliates Imerys and Aptar Group, are partners in the new European RDI project Be-UP. As part of the Be-UP project, new synthesis and processing routes will be developed for innovative aliphatic-aromatic biopolyesters with an increased content of renewable raw materials, using bio-based building blocks (e.g., 1,4-bio-BDO), as well as innovative catalysts and additives.

These components will be optimized using advanced numerical modeling tools, based on Kinetic Monte Carlo (kMC) models, for synthesis and polymerization.

These biopolyesters will be blended with commercial biopolymers (such as PLA, PBAT, and PHA), bio-based chain extenders, and mineral fillers to create bioplastic packaging materials.

A new material from FuturaMat obtains the "OK Biodegradable Soil" certification

For over three years, FuturaMat has been working closely with GRIPLAST to develop an innovative solution: a protective sleeve for young shrubs, 100% biodegradable in the soil, without any harmful residue. The challenge was significant:

  • Design a material that could be processed by extrusion,
  • Guarantee sufficient mechanical strength,
  • Ensure a lifespan of at least 18 months in a terrestrial environment.
